User Research
Observational research and in-person interviews were conducted at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta to investigate patron behavior in relation to seating arrangements. This research revealed four key insights that informed the design direction.

Understanding the Concept

What
An interactive stool built of acrylic and mirors.
Where
Museums and display areas, where traditionally untouchable objects can be experienced through interaction and reflection.
When
Museum visits, utilized when users are interacting wth other products.
How
Through reflection and interaction of the stool, whether sitting or walking by it.
Why
To deepen a user's connection with their environment, integrating surrounding elements into their experience and allowing them to be seen in new perspectives.
Problem Statement
Traditional museum seating is either static—offering limited engagement and visual disconnection from exhibits—or inconvenient to access and ergonomically unfriendly. This results in a missed opportunity for deeper interaction and reflection within museum environments, particularly when visitors seek moments of rest or connection.

Experience
Product
Blend spaces into one another.
Human Factors
Role: Industrial and UX Designer (Solo)
Duration: 6 weeks
Tools: Laser Cutter, Fusion 360, Cardboard Prototyping, CNC Machine

Purpose Statement
Design a reflective stool that turns rest into interaction, deepening visitor connection with the space.

Design Brief
Design a modern stool for the High Museum of Art in Atlanta that promotes interaction, contemplation, and resting, seamlessly blending with the museum’s artistic environment. Ensure durability and flow while enhancing visitor engagement and conversation with one another.

These sketches were chosen to go forward for its promotion of interaction. Design theme balanced on modern industrialization and retro modern contemporary.

Chosen Concepts

How can these designs honor the High while fostering flow and connection between patrons and the museum?

Adaption in design
Due to assembly challenges, the design had to be reworked to allow for easier construction using the selected materials.

Next Steps
-
Will conduct real user testing in a museum setting
-
Will research alternative materials and manufacturing methods to reduce production costs
-
Will perform stability and weight testing across varying demographic groups
